Passing on Traditions
Sheena Dee Pauley '84 remembers Hathaway Brown as a school steeped in academic and social traditions. She hopes her legacy will help pass on those traditions to future young women at her alma mater.
What will your legacy be?
Sheena came to Hathaway Brown in the sixth grade after her family moved to the United States from England, where she had previously attended an all-girls school. "An all-girls environment lets you focus on your education without distractions," says Sheena, who appreciated HB's strong emphasis on academics. "But Hathaway Brown was so much more than books," she adds. "There were field trips and speakers and fantastic teachers who really cared about you and shared so much of themselves."
Strong Foundation at HB Gains Profession Success
After graduating from Hathaway Brown, Sheena earned her BA in political economy at Skidmore College and her MBA in finance at the Weatherhead School of Management, Case Western Reserve University. Currently the vice president of wealth management at PNC Bank in Cleveland, Sheena acknowledges that much of her personal and professional achievements are due to her experiences at Hathaway Brown, where attributes such as a positive attitude, a sense of confidence and the courage to try new things were instilled in her.
Sheena also treasures the lifelong friends she made at HB. "Some of my closest friends today were my classmates at Hathaway Brown," she says. "And they are the kind of friends that rally around you during good times and bad."
A Lasting Legacy
As an alumna, Sheena has continued to join her friends at class reunions and traditional HB events like IDEO. She has also been a generous financial donor, participating in her company's matching gift program to maximize her contributions to HB's annual fund. Because it's important to Sheena and her husband, Glen, to help perpetuate the education of women, Sheena has also designated the school as a beneficiary of her IRA and 401(k). Now a member of the Mary E. Raymond Legacy Society, Sheena is content knowing that she is helping enhance the educational community at Hathaway Brown for generations to come.
